the Apple guy insisted Big Sur would not install if there isn't enough space and I'm the anomaly. After you beg them for an alternate method, maybe even bringing Mac in, they will tell you that your not the first one and if none of the prior methods work then wiping is the only option. Lastly, you will be forced to call apple support and after a very frustrating 2 hour call where you try every tick in their book they will inevitably tell you that the only fix is to completely wipe your mac. If you try any variant boot up mode it will ask for your password which, still, will not be accepted. If you try to restart your computer it will try to install again. Your Mac now no longer recognizes your password. The only fix for this is to launch from recovery mode BUT. Something that it does not tell you and also something that will semi-brick your Mac if not met as a prereq.Īfter the failed install you will be stuck on a perpetual 1min left, or an error could not install. I got tired of getting notifications to update to Big Sur and after some research where people said it was running smooth on their 2016 Macs I decided to do it.īig Sur will download as a 12gb file but when it installs it NEEDS 40gb of space to install. Use it as a workhorse for video editing, etc, etc. For the record, I own a 2016 MBP with all the bells and whistles.
